INTRO
VIENNESE WALTZ

Cost: $3 (no spectators, please).

As the Viennese Waltz Night of February 9th approaches, CBDC is holding a special Viennese Waltz Workshop.

Description: Highly recommended to anyone who plans to attend the Viennese Waltz Night on Feb. 9th, this workshop will review the international style Viennese Waltz figures and provide technical pointers to help you move gracefully along the line of dance. Dancers of all levels are welcome to attend.

Notes:
1. Please plan to show up at 8:45pm to register. The workshop will promptly start at 9:00pm.
2. Additional $5 gym entry fee for people not affiliated with Caltech.
3. Dance shoe policy is enforced (suede soles & heel protectors or socks).
4. The team practice that usually occurs from 9-11pm on Tuesdays will happen from 10-11pm this week because of the workshop.

 
 
 
INTRO
BODY MOVEMENT

Cost: $5 (no spectators, please).
A 2-hour workshop on body movement led by Kristina (Kris) Barkume from the Caltech Dance
Troupe.

This workshop will consist of two parts: In the first part, Kris will lead a session on
stretches. In the second part, Kris will cover various topics in body movement, such as: spins/turns, spotting, body isolations, core, balance.

Kris is a jazz/classical dancer.  The goal of the workshop is to expose ballroom dancers to fundamental ideas of body movement which are not typically taught to ballroom dancers until much more advanced levels.

Notes:
1. Please plan to show up at 3:45pm to register. The workshop will promptly start at 4:00pm.
2. Additional $5 gym entry fee for people not affiliated with Caltech.

Join Simon Costain and Brooke Voight as they teach a special workshop is Dips, Drops and Leans. Focusing on both safety and styling - Simon and Brooke will show you a range of moves that any dancer can incorporate into their freestyle repertoire. Whether you’re advanced, intermediate or beginner - you will love this workshop! This 2 hour workshop will cater to all levels of dance, and will include some of the most popular moves from Down-Under and across the globe. Its only $10 and no partner is necessary. Simon and Brooke will teach moves that range from casual dips, breath-taking drops and sultry leans. They are perfect for Ceroc and Modern jive dancers, and many other styles including swing, salsa and tango. This is a great way to become more confident is your dance, as you learn how to highlight hits in the music with dramatic moves, or explore the slower beats with drawn out leans and gracious dips.
Cost: $10
** Open to advanced, intermediate or beginner-level dancers, only pre-requisites are:
- you should maintain a good connection with your partner (and thus be able to lead/follow moves well)
- you should be able to dance on time (at least most of the time:) )
- you do NOT need any experience with dips or drops, but be aware that the workshop will cover these so be prepared to learn!!

MODERN JIVE: Favorite Moves from Down Under

Simon and Brooke will teach a special workshop highlighting some of their favorite modern jive moves from Australia.

Focusing on fun, free-stylable moves, Simon and Brooke will show you a range of moves that any dancer can incorporate into their freestyle repertoire. Whether you're advanced, intermediate or beginner - you will love this workshop!

This 2 hour workshop will cater to all levels of dance, and will include some of the most popular moves from Down-Under and across the globe.

These workshops are perfect for Ceroc and modern jive dancers, as well as many other dance styles including swing, salsa and tango. This is a great way to become more confident in your dance, and learn some moves that will impress your partner and the crowd.
Cost: $10.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, towel, drinks, snacks and LOTS OF FRIENDS!!! No partner is necessary.

"This weeks workshop will focus on Styling, Musicality, and interpreting moves and music to enhance your dancing..

We've taught some pretty cool moves over the past few months, now its time to refine your skills as a dancer and make even the most basic of moves look amazing..It will be a fun workshop with lessons that will improve your dance style dramatically - because we won't rush things to get through move after move after move... We may even practice those body rolls again!"

Hosted by Caltech Tango Club, these specialized workshops are geared towards intermediate & more advance level dancers, and will generally focus on advance fundamentals & technique, advance figures, specialized styles & musical interpretation.

This is an advance beginner - intermediate level workshop. Students should have prior experience leading/following the basic elements of Argentine Tango.
Cost per workshop:
$10 for all students & Caltech affiliates (with ID);
$15 regular.
Caltech Tango Club is very excited to have Jaimes Friedgen at Caltech, who along with his partner Rebecca Shulman, will be teaching in Los Angeles from January 12-22.

For those who frequent Tango festivals, in the US and beyond, these heavily credentialed teachers are well-known - loved, admired, and very sought after.

This year, Jaimes & Rebecca started the Tango scene in Bombay, India. In October, they performed to Biagi's "Caricias" at the most popular Tango Festival in the US, Portland TangoFest. Their collaboration is full of energy, precision, and heart. It is a very special opportunity to have them working together here in LA.

Jaimes has performed, taught, and DJed in Buenos Aires. He has toured the world to build and strengthen grassroots Tango communities on nearly every continent. He has partnered with some of the biggest Tango stars, including Mariana Dragone who also works with Chicho

This workshop covers the concepts of dynamic ochos in open tango as well as introducing the lead-follow theory behind follower's sacadas. These two concepts can be combined together, with other tango elements, to create very interesting & beautiful combinations of flowing movement. The main focus of the class will be on the detailed technique involved to facilitate this body movement while maintaining a 'flexible & engaged' embrace with our partners!
This is an advance beginner - intermediate level workshop. Students should have prior experience leading/following the basic elements of Argentine Tango.

David Chiu prides himself as a clinician who creates a fun learning environment. Because of his clear instructions, students leave his classes with techniques they can immediately incorporate into their dancing.

His dynamic style combines classic elegance with nuevo vocabulary in the close embrace. He has studied with numerous masters including Juan Carlos Copes y Johana Copes, Miguel Zotto y Soledad Rivero, Osvaldo Zotto y Lorena Ermocida, and Gustavo Naivera y Giselle Anne. In addition, having studied music since four, he has a unique ability to help his students understand the musicality of tango.

 
 
This 2-part workshop will cover: Boleos and Sacadas in the Molinete for milonga and show.
Additional topics include: Carousels, Linear Boleos, Colgadas, and Volcadas.
