Attire: For men, shirt and tie minimum, formalwear highly encouraged. White tie would not be out of place (Period costumes from the mid 19th century also great).

For ladies, ball gowns or equivalent (Period ball gowns if you want to really go for it).

Shoes: No narrow heels, only thick heels (dance shoes with thick heel protectors are barely acceptable).  Danceslippers or cuban heels preferred.

When: Saturday, February 24, starting 8:30pm till we get tired; Figure sharing from 10-10:30 pm.
where: North Catalina Rec Room
* The north cats rec room is in the NW corner of the campus map, just east of Catalina Ave.
What: And remember, we have a modern jive gathering, with a slightly different format - we'll break for ~30 min in the middle to share a few moves, i.e. I'll teach one and then someone else will volunteer to teach a second, then maybe a third someone will teach a 3rd.  These moves can be anywhere from beginner to advanced, or remind people of one of the figures we covered in one of the recent workshops - all are fair game!
Also, it was Alex's birthday this week so come wish him a happy birthday and dance with him!
cost: Free per usual, a few snacks provided but it would be good to bring a water bottle.

Caltech Dance Show

4th Annual Caltech Dance Show

Featuring pieces from traditional hula to innovative salsa, from captivating belly dance to contemporary jazz, and almost every segment of the Caltech community is represented in the cast of more than 50 dancers.

What: More ceroc dancing and a post dance show celebration! Our ballroom ceroc formation team will be performing at the Caltech Dance Show again this year!!

After the 2nd (and last) dance show performance this Saturday, members of the modern jive/ceroc formation cast are heading to the Central Catalina Rec Room for - yes - some more dancing!! Please join us in celebrating the completion of the dance show, and more sadly, saying goodbye to our ceroc guru Mike Fleming, who will be off to England next week. (We have lost him for months on end across one or another ocean before, but this time he may be truly gone!)

Also say goodbye cerocoholic Raj Kulkarni who is heading back to the UK.

Night at the Hacienda
what: A group from our beginner West Coast Swing class is heading to the Hacienda in El Segundo to try out our new moves. Come join us for a fun night of dancing!
When: Thursday, May 17.
Where: The Hacienda, 525 N Sepulveda Blvd, El Segundo, CA.
Carpool: Meet at the corner of San Pasqual & Wilson at 8:15 pm. Carpool will leave at ~ 8:30 pm. Please bring a car if you can drive. Drivers, please print out directions.
cost: No cover charge. Please remember to tip the DJ.
Directions: Take the 110S and 105W. Exit Sepulveda South (the exit after LAX airport). The Hacienda will be on the right after a few lights. There is a big red neon sign that says "Hacienda". details about the benefit for Cristina: This month's all-night milonga will be held as a special benefit for Cristina Ladas. One of our beloved teachers, Cristina Ladas fell ill recently with an acute degenerative kidney disease. On April 21, she was admitted to the ER where tests revealed her kidney's were at 7% normal function. Thankfully, with aggressive treatment, including 18 rounds of plasmapheresis, she is recovering. She still needs to undergo continued chemo and steroid treatments for the next 2 months, but the prognosis is good that she will make a full recovery from the renal failure. About: Start the month off right with an evening of social dancing. We'll have fast songs for dancing Ceroc, slow songs for dancing West Coast Swing, and many in between that are great for both.

where: Winnett Lounge, 2nd floor. Note: We don't technically have a reservation for Winnett (building 51 on the campus maps, second floor), but hope to be able to dance there anyway.
