Caltech/Claremont Dance Party

Come enjoy a night of dancing with us, co-hosted by Caltech's and Claremont's dance clubs. Our MC and DJ for the evening will be Claremont's very own Paul Roach. Invite your friends!

Featuring: A free introductory dance lesson to get you started, a nice spread of refreshments and munchies, and an excellent variety of social and ballroom dance music to entertain late into the night!

9:00 pm: "Old style" ballroom minilesson with Paul Roach
9:45 pm- 12:00 am: Dancing!
Where: In Winnett Lounge, 2nd floor
Price:
  • FREE for Caltech and UCSB students and for other full-time students (with ID). Also free for registered competitors.
  • $10 regular.
Description: Come dance and socialize with your fellow competitors and the Caltech community. Practice those moves before the day of the competition!
Featuring: A free "Old style" ballroom (think Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers) dance lesson to get you started, a nice spread of refreshments, and an excellent variety of music to entertain!

Viennese Waltz Night

2008 Viennese Waltz Night
When: Friday, February 13th, 8:00 pm
with the opening Grand March commencing at 8:15 pm.
Where: In Dabney Hall, with beautiful hardwood floors
Price: FREE
Description: An evening of Viennese waltzes and a few olkas, along with performances by the Occidental Folk & Historical Dance Troupe
Dress: A free introductory dance lesson to get you started, a nice spread of refreshments, and an excellent variety of music to entertain late into the night!
Lesson: For men, white tie is preferable, and formal wear is highly encouraged. One should at minimum wear a shirt and tie.

For ladies, long ball gowns or similar are appropriate.

Shoes should not have narrow heels; thick heels are acceptable, and Cuban
heels or dance slippers are encouraged.

End-of-term Party

Ballroom Boot Camp

What: All Caltech students are invited to come learn seven dances in four days FREE courtesy of the Caltech Ballroom Dance Club!
When: Sunday, September 28th, through Thursday, October 2nd
Where: Winnett Lounge and Dabney Hall

  • This event is FREE but is specifically for Caltech students, post-docs, and faculty
Details: This is a initiation for Caltech students into several varieties of dancing, and a sampler of the classes we offer throughout the year. No prior dance experience or partner is needed! Those who attend three of the four of the asterisked events below will enter a raffle for one of 15 "Periodic table of dancing" shirts. All events are FREE for current Caltech students and staff. Please note that bootcamp week classes are limited to current students, post-docs/staff, and orgs members, while the intro night party/showcase is open to everyone.
