beginner West Coast Swing

instructor: With professional instructor Gary Ulaner.
when: 7 Mondays, starting April 9, 8:30-10:00 pm.
Please arrive 15 minutes early on the first day for registration.
where: In Winnett Lounge (2nd floor).
description: The official state dance of California, West Coast Swing has evolved from its roots as an offshoot of Lindy Hop into a versatile dance able to be performed to a wide variety of music including blues, rock and roll, pop and R&B.  Danced traditionally in a slot where the leader dances in place while the follower travels back and forth, WCS allows for a full array of moves from other social dances including East Coast Swing, Salsa and Hustle to be adapted to its own unique style.
cost: FREE for Caltech Undergrads (with ID);
$6 Caltech Grad students/$8 non-students per class;
$35 Caltech Grad students/$49 non-students for the 7-wk series (in advance).
Practice: General practice session after class.
notes: NO partner or dance experience necessary.

Intermediate argentine tango PART 1

instructor: With professional instructors Edmundo & Elizabeth Thomas.
when: 4 Thursdays, from April 5 - April 26, 9:00-10:30 pm.
where: In Winnett Lounge (2nd floor).
description: COMBINING SACADAS, GANCHOS & BOLEOS
notes: This is a 4 week intermediate level series focusing on sacada, gancho & boleo combinations. Students should have good experience leading/ following Argentine Tango. This series is specifically recommended for those who have attended the Beginner & Advance Beginner Series. NO partner necessary.
Practica: Practica and open dancing after class. We will DJ the music!
Cost: $5/class or $15/series for students* & Caltech affiliates;
$8/class or $25/series regular.

notes: This is a 4 week intermediate level series focusing on technique and styling. Students should have good experience leading/ following Argentine Tango. This series is specifically recommended for those who have attended the Beginner & Advance Beginner Series. NO partner necessary.

Advance beginner ballroom
instructors: Taught by Robert Nissen & Megan Nix.
when: 8 Sundays, starting April 1, 12:30-2:00 pm.
NOTE: No class on April 8.

description: 4 weeks of Waltz & Cha Cha and 4 weeks of Quickstep & Rumba. Now that you've seen the basics, this class will polish your steps and introduce some more challenging figures. We will spend approximately four weeks on each dance, outlining the techniques necessary to have you moving with even more style and grace.
cost: FREE for Caltech Undergrads (with ID);
$4 Caltech Grad students/$6 non-students per class;
$30 Caltech Grad students/$45 non-students for the 8-wk series (in advance).
Practice: After class, 2:00-2:45 pm!

International Standard Tango Series 2:45 - 3:45 pm;
International Latin Jive Series 3:45-4:45 pm.
NOTE: No class on April 8.

description: 8 weeks of International Tango and Jive. The two series will teach silver level figures.
Try-Outs: Try-outs for prospective participants for the intermediate class will occur during the first few minutes of each series. Specifically, the requirements are:
