4th Annual Theoretical Astrophysics in Southern California (TASC) Meeting (2004)

The 2004 Theoretical Astrophysics in Southern California (TASC) Meeting is planned to be held on Friday October 15th, 2004 at the Campus of University of California at Irvine (UCI) and will be hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCI.

In previous years, the TASC meeting has been hosted by Caltech (2001 TASC 01), KITP at Santa Barbara (2002 TASC 02), and UCLA Physics and Astronomy (2003 TASC 03). As in previous years, the one-day meeting is intended as a venue to bring together the Southern California Theoretical Astrophysics community (faculty, researchers, postdocs, students) so as to help each other become familiar with broad range of research activities in the area.

We will have talks (following an informal format) on current research and the preference will be given to graduate students and postdocs. We give equal time to all speakers (in the past, this has been around 10 minutes to each talk). A competent group of judges will present at least one prize for the best student talk at the meeting.

Registration Form || Program || List of Registrants

(Last updated Oct 11th, 2004). If you think you registered but not on this list, please email me. If you information is incorrect or incomplete (no talk title, change to talks etc), let me know as well.
If you are interested in participating, please register. We will not be able to accept any more talks (unless there are last minute changes). In any case, if you are still interested in giving a talk, please let us know.
The talks are allocated 12 mins each (13 mins for odd numbered speakers, but you probably won't get to use an extra minute): 10 mins for the real talk and 2 mins or so for questions.
If you are giving a powerpoint or a pdf talk, instead of connecting different laptops, we will arrange to have a single one on the speakers table. You can transfer your talk with the use of a memory stick and we will have several of them available for use during the meeting. You can also bring a CD. Or, if you prefer, please email me the talk file and I will transfer it to the main laptop. We also have an overhead projector for traditional viewgraph talks.

Dinner

We are organizing a dinner for the participants at the India Cook House, 14130 Culver Drive, Irvine, CA 92714, about a 5 to 10 min drive from the workshop location. The dinner will start around 6:30 pm and will cost a fixed price of $16.95. There will be both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. If you are interested in joining, please let us know as part of the registration as we need an accurate count to reserve a large table at the restaurant.

Lodging

If you are planning to stay overnight at Irvine, a vast number of options are available within a 5 to 10 min or so driving distance from the campus. We encourage you to look over the UCI conference hotel web site for more information.
