Local Area Guide: Indoor Rock Gyms
This page has information on local (and not-so-local) areas for rock climbing, hiking, mountaineering, canyoneering, caving, skiing, backcountry skiing and ice climbing. And yes, I recognize this page is incomplete and always will be, so please send (nice) suggestions about areas to add, or information to change. To navigate, see the links in the right column.
Local Indoor Rock Gyms
Of course, the closest gym to campus is our little bouldering gym which is located on campus in Brown Gym. You must be a member of the gym (i.e. Caltech or JPL affiliated).
Here is a list of other gyms in the SoCal area (excluding San Diego). "The Arc" is by far the closest gym to Pasadena; "Hanger 18" is another popular option since the Caltech rock climbing class is taught there.
- Arcadia Rock Climbing (The Arc)
- Hanger 18 in Upland
- Rockreation in Costa Mesa
- Rockreation in Santa Monica
- Beach City Rocks in Hawthorne
- Rock City Climbing Center in Anaheim Hills
- ClimbX in Huntington Beach
- Solid Rock Gym in Lake Forest (Orange County)
- The Bullet Hole Training Center in Victorville
- Boulderdash Rock Climbing in Thousand Oaks
