Banff Mountain Film Festival, Tue Mar 17

The 2008/09 film tour came to Ramo Auditorium at Caltech on Tuesday, March 25th and was sold out once again. Tickets were $12 in advance, and $5 for students. Here's the Caltech Public Events Banff Film Festival site, and from the events website you can find information obtaining tickets. More information at banffmountainfestivals.ca

Winter Mountaineering Trip

By popular demand, the club held it's 3rd annual Winter Mountaineering Trip. We climbed Mt. Whitney (March 20-21) and then the Casaval Ridge on Mt. Shasta (April 4-5); we had a large practice trip (25 participants!) on Sat-Sun Feb. 21-21. Weather was an issue this year, and the practice trip, Whitney trip and Shasta trip all were postponed at various times due to storms and/or avalanche conditions. Also, check out the 2008 and 2007 webpages (we climbined Whitney both years, and Mt. Sill in 2008 as well), or the Mt. Shasta trip page (from our summer trip in 2006).

Winter Safety Workshop

Winter Safety Workshop, Sat Jan. 24 2009. Rob Klusman of Sierra Madre Search and Rescue will cover some basic winter topics, focusing on avalanche safety. This is NOT indended to replace a standard 3-day Level I AIARE course (if that's what you want, you should take the course in Bishop that JoHanna is organizing), but instead is an introduction to the subject.

The workshop is from 9 to 4 at the Caltech Y's multipurpose room, on Saturday Jan. 24. Lunch will be provided. RSVP to alpine for lunch-planning purposes.

Avalanche Course, Sat Jan 17 to Mon Jan 19

Avalanche course in January 2009! If interested, email JoHanna at johannap and fill out our application (MS Word document) as well as SMI's Application/Waiver (PDF). More details on our Avalanche course website.

NOTE: as of Jan '09, small weekly climbing trips are no longer mentioned here

The good news is that there are many weekly trips to Joshua Tree, etc. But it's hard keeping the website up-to-date, so these are no longer reported here. Be sure to join the mailing list if you want to stay current!

Climbing at Joshua Tree with UC-Riverside, Fri-Sun Jan 9-11
Sport climbing at Riverside Quary, Sun Jan 4
Sport climbing at Echo Cliffs, Sat Jan 3
