The Protein/Peptide Micro Analytical Laboratory
is a core resource facility located in the
Beckman Institute. The laboratory supports research in molecular biology and protein
chemistry across the Caltech campus in protein and biopolymer structure analysis and proteomics (instrumentation) .
Analytical methods include mass spectrometry (MS) of proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides and small organics, microbore and nanoflow capillary high performance liquid chromatography (cLC), cLC-MS, cLC-MS/MS, protein chemical modification, in-gel digestion, peptide purification, and database search and analysis. Activities include the identification of proteins (proteomics) by peptide mass mapping by MALDI time-of-flight, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (cLC-MS/MS), and/or N-terminal Edman sequencing. Proteomic mapping of phosphorylation and glycosylation post-translational modifications are performed using multiple technologies.
Staff
The laboratory is located in room 204 of The Beckman Institute (offices in rooms 232 and 215). Tel: (626) 395-6388 [lab], (626) 395-2769 [office], FAX at (626) 449-3414, or e-mail to: Off-campus Collaboration
Time for off-campus collaboration is extremely limited and investigators are required to contact the director before sending any materials. We cannot be responsible for returned samples. Collaborators are required to submit a detailed description of the work desired, a detailed description of the sample, and a valid purchase order number from their campus before work can begin. Sample forms can be found elsewhere on this site. (blank forms)
