FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Grants from both IUPS and NSF make it possible for the organizers to provide limited financial support for travel, subsistence, accommodations, and registration expenses to at least some more junior participants in this symposium (graduate students, postdoctoral associates, junior faculty). All members of these groups should promptly send an email message to the Conference Coordinator, Martha Salcedo (msalcedo@caltech.edu), identifying which of these eligible groups they are in and giving an itemized budget stating the expenses with which they would like to have assistance. All requests for assistance must be received by the Coordinator on or before February 28, 2005. Award decisions and notifications will be made by the Organizing Committee beginning February 15, so early submission is desirable. Amounts that will be available to individuals will be determined by a combination of factors: the total amount provided by NSF (not yet determined as of 1/20/05); the total number of requests received; the amounts of those requests; and the perceived importance of the assistance to making it possible for the individual to participate in the symposium. For all graduate students and postdoctoral associates the organizers intend to rebate registration expenses.
Under terms of the grants received from both donor agencies payments to participants will be made after the symposium. Travel, accommodation, and registration expenses must be documented by original receipts. Subsistence expenses will be based on per diem allowance of U.S. $50.00/day.

People who are not U.S. citizens who will be traveling from outside the U.S. to participate in this Satellite Symposium and/or in the 35th International Congress of Physiological Sciences may find detailed information concerning necessary visas for their trips on a website maintained by the International Visitors Office of the U.S. National Academies of Science. The website also includes internet links to the Federal agencies involved in the visa process. It is strongly recommended that ample time be allowed for completion of the application process - at least 3 months, or earlier, before your anticipated arrival date.
