Our next meeting:

113 Spalding Lab, 5:15pm

The Quality of Life Committee is focused on defending or improving the quality of life currently enjoyed by graduate students at the Institute. Examples of recurring issues include health insurance, campus parking, and internet access, but we are certainly not limited to these topics. Browsing our projects and archived minutes will help to familiarize you with our current interests and our scope. We are always keen to hear about any issues or concerns prevalent in the graduate student community, and encourage your input. Please feel free to email us your concerns or comments at gscqol@caltech.edu or contact a committee member directly. We look forward to serving you.

We want your feedback on Health Insurance | Increased Dental Costs?

We need your feedback on health insurance!

The Quality of Life Committee of the Graduate Student Council has been working very hard with Caltech Human Resources to provide the best possible health insurance for you. Last September we switched insurance carriers from PIA/GTL to Aetna/Chickering.

Now that the transition period has passed, we would like to hear your comments about how the plan is working. Is the coverage adequate? Are there additional benefits you would like to see implemented? Are there deficiences with the insurace (coverage, customer service, prescriptions, etc)? What is good and bad about the insurance? QoL would like to know so that we can pass your concerns to the Caltech HR and to Aetna/Chickering. All comments will be kept confidential. Please email the GSC Quality of Life Committee at gscqol (@its) with your comments.

Increased Dental Costs?

We have heard many negative comments about the dental coverage for students at Caltech. Caltech will have the chance to re-negotiate dental coverage soon and needs to know what level of coverage students would prefer. Increased coverage will mean increased cost. However, Caltech approximately matches the premium payment students make, so a small increase in cost to students could result in a large increase in the quality of dental plan we are able to obtain.

With this in mind, we would like to know if you would be willing to incur increased cost for dental coverage, and if so, how much extra would you be willing to pay per term? Currently, students pay $60/year for dental coverage.
