CBDC offers a host of
ballroom and social dance classes throughtout the year with the class
series synchronised with the Caltech term schedule. There are usually
two class sessions per quarter (about 5 or 10 weeks per session), with
two sessions in the summer (about 8 weeks each). The two classes are
held on different nights, currently on Mondays and Thursdays, typically
with one amateur-taught class and one professionally-taught class.
Occasionally, we also
offer special 1 to 3 week long workshops/seminars. The series schedule
varies per class, so please check the class calendar above for
class-specific details. All our classes can be used for PE credit.
|
| |
Amateur-Taught
Class
The amateur-taught class
is currently $1 per person, payable on the honor code. It is free for
frosh, first-year graduate students, and those taking the class for PE
credit. It is generally a beginner-level class.
|
| |
Professionally-Taught
Class
The professionally-taught
class is also usually at a beginner level; however, there is less
review of the figures from week to week, so regular attendance is
required. The cost as of June 2004 is $6 per class for Caltech students
and $8 for all others. There is a $1 discount per class if you pay in
advance for the entire series. No refunds are given, but prior
arrangements can be made if you know you will miss a class.
Professionally-taught
intermediate-level classes are also offered occasionally for certain
beginner series that were offered at an earlier term.
Non-Caltech affiliated
people are welcome to both classes. No partner is required. After every
class, we have refreshments and open dancing.
|
| |
International-Style
Competitive
Dancing
There are also
International Style dance classes and technique practices taught either
by professional/top-amateur dancers or experienced CBDC competitive
dancers. See the Caltech Ballroom Dance Team
page for more information.
