Beginner and Intermediate West Coast Swing
instructor: Professional instructor Gary Ulaner, assisted by Leslie Huber.
when: 8 Mondays, starting June 23
Beginner class 8:30-9:30, Intermediate class 9:45-10:45
where: In Dabney Hall (NOTE CHANGED LOCATION)
Cost: Cost: FREE for Caltech Undergrad & Grad students (with ID);
$5/class or $35/series* for full-time students & Caltech affiliates (with ID);
$8/class of $56/series* regular

Description: West Coast Swing is danced to a wide variety of music including rock and roll, contemporary pop, and R&B. No dance experience is required for the beginner class, and students in the intermediate class should already be able to lead/follow a sugar push, whip, underarm turn, and tuck turn. Both singles and couples are welcome.

when: 8 Sundays, starting June 22, 12:00-2:00 pm.
practice: After class from 2:00 - 2:30pm.
where: In Winnett Lounge (2nd floor).
price: FREE for Caltech Students (with ID);
$6 per class or $40/series in advance for Caltech affiliates and alumni and for students of other universities (with ID);
$10 per class or $70/series in advance for all others.

description: Four weeks of American Smooth Waltz and American Rhythm Cha Cha, and four weeks of American Smooth Tango and American Rhythm East Coast Swing. If you're just beginning or looking to polish basic ballroom technique, this is the class for you!
prereqs: No special attire, previous experience, or partner needed! However, leather or suede soled shoes make dancing easier.
About the instructor: About the instructor: Born and raised in Montreal Canada, Andre started dancing at the age of 7. After a successful competitive career in his home country, Andre moved to Los Angeles to pursue a teaching career. He's been featured in several movies and TV shows as a dancer, choreographer and assistant choreographer and recently worked with Patrick Dempsey, Amy Adams and James Marsden for the Disney movie nchanted.

intermediate International Ballroom

where: In Winnett Lounge, 2nd floor.

Description: Four weeks of International Waltz and Jive (1st hour Waltz, 2nd hour Jive). The class will cover mostly Silver patterns in each dance (time permitting), body techniques for each, some open patterns at this level (time permitting), lead and follow and presentation (for show/comp or just showing off!).
Prereqs: Dancers should be familiar with the basic bronze figures and some silver figures in both dances, and there will be a brief tryout at the beginning of the first class. If you cannot come to this tryout, please contact the team captain about trying out at another time. Dancers should be prepared to spend time outside of class practicing the routines and technique so that the class can move forward at a fast pace.
Notes: This series is highly recommended for competitive ballroom dancers! Team membership is not required, but additional resources and opportunities are available for team members. Visit the team website for more information on joining.
About the instructor: Jerry's achievements and credentials include:
- 1985 and 1987 America's Amateur Dance Champion
- 1989 Arthur Murray 9 Dance Rising Star Champion, 1990, 1991 and 1995 National and International Dance Finalist
- A 19 year full-time Professional Teacher of both the American and International Styles of Ballroom and Latin Dancing
- An accredited member of the NDCA, Terpsichore Dance Association, the U.S.I.S.T.D. and the I.S.T.D. in both the American and International Styles
- Currently registered with the NDCA as an adjudicator of both International and American style Ballroom dances

Beginner Milonga

About: Milonga along with Vals and Tango make up the triad of music and dance forms of Argentine Tango. Set to a lively 2/4 tempo music, milonga uses the same basic elements as tango, though the movement is more accented and upbeat. NO dance experience or partner necessary.
