Developing magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy techniques for in vivo characterization of diseases. In particular, application of DENSE-MRI for the measurement of strain in the carotid arteries for the early diagnosis of atherosclerosis in patients at risk for stroke and/or heart attacks. Also, development of 13C MRI and MRS pulse sequences using hyperpolarized reagents for in vivo molecular imaging of metabolic function.
